Now let’s have a? cross-country race. Good luck with the charging times. :P
from talking to my uncle who just bought a much of solar cells most solar energy is less cost efficient than using the power grid, sure its nice to have but? its cost a lot and the cells have to be replaced about every 4 years
A large Solar system can take up to 4 years to pay for itself but they last 30 – 40 years, by which time they will have paid for themselves many times over! If you run an EV off solar panels they’ll pay for themselves much faster due? to fuel savings!
@youthbytes805 from the? sun in our car, without any emissions, Nice !!
@tsport100 Late to the? party, but just wanted to mention:From June to September, California has periods of rolling blackouts due to overburdening of the power grid. I know, i worked for the company that monitors the electric grid for the left half of the united states.Tax the grid, and watch energy prices SOAR from your local utility company as they scramble to deploy measures to increase capacity. That’s a fact jack!
No problem! Ever heard of ‘off peak’ where they can’t give the power being generated away they sell it? for 25% of peak price? A DoE study says the grid can handle 85 Million EVs right now with current capacity. Obviously most EVs will charge over night!Last news I heard about rolling black outs in CAL it was caused by Enron… and the CEO is in jail for it!
@GR40GT It was proven those brownouts were all fake in a scam? to jack up energy costs
people keep forgetting that during when we are usually asleep at night, we use much less electrical energy off the grid. The grid is still operating? at a capacity or supply that is still way too high for the demand. So in actuality, electrical power is going to waste. Why not plug in cars at night and in the morning, drive them to work? It would be significantly more efficient in the long term and even start up new industries.
this is very true and its a? shame electric cars aren’t a transportation staple today but definitely will be in the near future.
AmangAtang it’s still more efficient that using electricity to make hydrogen to run cars (due to losses, cost of cells, weight of engine, more moving parts, uses up valuabe fresh water etc. etc.)Also EV’s can recharge with standard and alternative energy that’s already available and more Electric Vehicles will encourage future development of solar, wind, battery, geothermal and tidal electricity production.Solar film on an EV can help? keep it topped up.tsport100 Thanks for posting this vid
