The contractors are giving you their price plus the labor to install the unit. You are also paying for the training, expertise and tools the installers need to do the job. The price of the machine is irrelevant; you cannot do it yourself, so go with the contractor who details what you are paying for, and who will stand by the equipment s/he installs. It is also best to have the contractors bid similar machines; model specifications differ widely among brands and available options. Get quotes for units with similar capacity as well as SEER ratings.
