What kind of air conditioning system do i need?
I intend putting it on the landing of my small 3 bedroom house to cool and dehumidify the bedrooms. Will this work and as there are no windows nearby, can i put the hose in the loft? If i go for a split system, will it work if i put the condensing part in the loft? Your expertise would be much appreciated

Hi,
I will try to answer with the limited information you gave. The condenser usually goes outside – If your loft is hugh and has vents it could work, you will have to drain the water to the outside -through a hose or some pvc pipes, but it will be really hot in the loft (temps coming off a condenser can reach up into 150+ degrees). They make a special split system now called a mini split . Mini splits don’t need windows they go right into the wall and will easily do a small apartment or home. Kinda like the ones you see at hotels . Some of them even look like art work or a painting on the wall.
As the loft gets very hot in the summer the condensing unit will not work very well. Install the a/C unit and run the fridge lines to the external unit on the shady side of your house. Make sure you have a drain away pipe for it as it will make a lot of water.
The condensor will not be able to get rid of the heat absorbed in a loft. You should figure 600sqft per ton of cooling for you conditioned space. No windows needed and yes, the duct / “hose” can be placed in the loft for ceiling mounted registers.
