I got in as a busker / courier van driver. lol.

My rezzie was granted on the basis of LURRRRRV
with a fine ozzie sheila !! And on legal errors made by the Nazi DIMIA. Whats the real story with that joint ?
I was asking why.
WHY this is the situation. Why import trades instead of training their own young people ?
Is it because most young people want to leave the damn place as soon as they get qualified in a trade or profession and get the taste of some money ? And again if so WHY ?

There is a shortage in Canada too. My hubby is a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and he`s one of three in our whole area!!

Well they may need all these people but they are very selective in who they have in their Country, and who could blame them. They only have to look at the mess we have made on Immigration, since starting this farce, but it is too late for us now, so they are taking this stance…. and I do not blame them. We have got all and sundry that do not know what work is but it does not matter as they can all go on to the Social and not work at all. We are too gullible but our Politicians have never learnt by any mistake they make, and never likely to either.

We have heaps of apprenticeships for those straight out of school in different trades, the problem is the younger generation are moving away from wanting a trade to wanting a different career, like accountants, teachers, etc.. And if you look at your list there is only really one female trade and thats hairdressing. So while 50% of males do get a trade after school, its only 25% in the big picture.

We do train our own people and they stay here to work too but in the past, too many parents and counsellors have thought that university is the only way to go for kids and they’ve been steering them away from trades. Fortunately that attitude is changing and trades are becoming seen as desirable occupations again.

I know that you don’t really want to know, but for your information, only people on the current list from the following trades are being granted visas at present:
    Electronic Equipment Trades
    Aircraft Maintenance Engineer – Avionics
    Aircraft Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical
    Gasfitter
    Wall and Floor Tiler

I’m very sorry to see that you’re back with your anti-Australian sentiments – there has to be something seriously wrong with someone who is so bitter and negative about a country like this one. It’s been pleasant without you.

Most of the situation has come about because over the last 20 years business has moved away from taking on apprentices. This isn’t just an Australian thing, it’s worldwide. The result is that with the economic boom demand for trades has gone into the stratosphere. Even now with the economy bottoming out the demand hasn’t let up much. Another part of the problem is that Government has encouraged students to get a higher education through universities. Trades just don’t have the allure of the big fancy car and house in the suburbs with 2.1 kids. Funny part is, tradefolk these days can just about name their price.
