Can a dog be okay without air conditioning during the summer in an apt?
We might be moving into a huge 2,000 sq ft warehouse loft next month, but it does not have air conditioning. We have a dog and 2 cats. We live in Philadelphia so it gets hot in the summer. There is a huge fan up on the high ceiling and we will probably put an air conditioner in the window in the bedroom area, since there are walls around the bedroom. For the most part, it wont be air conditioned. I am worried that the dog will pass out or get over-heated. Should I be worried?

Dogs and cats can overheat easily.
Use a floor fan along with the ceiling fan.
You can also buy air conditioners that can roll around the house.
Keep plenty of fresh water out so they can hydrate.
I’d be worried. I might worry more or less depending on what breed of dog that you have.
Yes.
Yes you should a dog reacts to heat and cold just like humans so if you cant stand it imagine your dog specially since they have fur. You might want to get a window a/c unit. During the day it will be hot but at night it should cool down and you wont need the a/c
It depends on what breed you have, some are better than others at regulating their body temps so that they can tolerate extreme heat and cold. I think as long as you restrict the dog to your bedroom using gates and keep water available it should be no problem. It also depends on how warm it really gets in your apt. I can’t imagine it getting over 80 degrees inside but I’m also not familiar with Philadelphia’s climate. I live in OK where temps in summer push 115 but it still remains about 80-85 inside.
What type of loft? Just asking b/c a lot of warehouse lofts have cement ceilings/walls/ floors, etc. That will keep the place cooler, in general.
If you don’t have air conditioning, then keep a fan on for them (at their level), with plenty of water. You could also try buying a product called a "cooling mat". Not sure if they work or not.
Philly gets hot, but not too bad so I think you’ll be fine.
Make sure you have plenty of water available for them so they won’t get dehydrated. As long as there are fans they should be fine.
Put some standing fans in the area where the pets are. And lots of water, too.
So you wont be hot right? Your going to have air conditioning so you can be comfortable? Well if you are going to have air conditioning dont you think your dog will be hot and need air conditioning? I do. Our dogs have air conditioning, cause I know I get hot and if I get hot then they get hot.
Air Conditioning.
kk you shouldnt leave your dogs with that heat but what kind of dogs are they and thats like leaving them in a car thats off ofr that day-crule but you could get some fans and just put them in a room with it
If you feel worried then it would be very easy to accommodate to help your canine friends feel more comfortable. Buy a small fan you know they cannot knock over (Keep it out of their reach, this applies for the cord too), and make sure their is plenty of water. There are also Auto Pet Feeders and water dishes to make sure they don’t run out, and pet mats to keep your dog cool when they lay down. If you still find it too hot look up a good place for them to stay like a friend’s or a doggy day care instead. Overall just trust your instinct! You should know where and how your pet will be most comfortable. Good luck! =]
Get floor fans. Open all your windows. Make sure they have plenty of water. I get ice bottles for my dog. And on hot days I fill up the tub a bit-he hasn’t used it yet and I’m not looking forward to the day he chooses to take a swim and then crawl into our bed
I think as long as you leave the door to your bedroom open for them to get into, you should be fine. The animals will learn where the cool is. You may want to get a portable, though… just to keep the interior temps a little lower. Also, big fans are excellent.
That and you may want to keep MANY water containers around. Maybe the jug type so no one runs out. You may also want to invest in a couple digital thermometers so you can see what your max temps get during summer days.
